MINISTER FOR AGRICULTURE, Food and the Marine Simon Coveney has called on Irish farmers to plant rice instead of other crops to take advantage of the latest floods sweeping Ireland.

 “This is a great opportunity for the nation’s farmers. We now have hundreds of thousands of acres ready for planting a new and exciting crop”, said the Minister.

“I urge the farming community to seize this opportunity before the waters recede as the China market alone is worth over 14 billion dollars. So let’s stop whinging and get planting”, he continued.

Ireland is currently up to its oxters in water following the establishment of a national utility and several falls of heavy rain.
