Gay Byrne Irish Postage Stamp Withdrawn
AN POST THE Irish postal service has withdrawn the new Gay Byrne stamp from publication. It’s understood that the 75 cent stamp, which was to be part of their new “Smug Series” could not accommodate a small enough image of the RTE broadcaster’s head.
A spokesperson for an Post told Louth Noises News that the whole series may be in jeopardy.
“Gay wasn’t the only one we had trouble with. We could only get about a third of Bono’s head on the 60 cent stamp. It’s an unusual situation, and one we hadn’t anticipated”, he said.
The Gay Byrne postage stamp is one of several in a set called the Smug Series, which was due to feature five well-known Irish personalities from the last century.
