Irish Doctor Struck off in Nigeria for Incompetence

AN IRISH DOCTOR has been struck off in Nigeria for incompetence. An inquiry heard from a nurse who worked with Dr Eamonn Quirke of how she had to snatch a needle from his hands moments before he was about to insert it into an elderly patient’s vein in order to take a blood sample. The nurse told how she cried “Bawai, what you do Oyibo?” to Dr Quirke.

She said that she honestly did not believe he was a proper sangoma as he should have shaken his spirit bones over the patient first.

Speaking to Louth Noises News via Skype, Dr Patrick Kwoddojam, Head of the Nigerian Medical Association denied that there was a problem with bogus foreign witch doctors.

“It may be a culture has grown here over the years where other witch doctors don’t speak out and they don’t bring forward issues as they should. But gradually we have started to change that, but it can’t be done by a simple edict. It takes hard evidence and I welcome today’s judgement”, he said.

Reacting to the news, Dr Quirke said that he had passed the exams set by the  Medical Council for overseas witch doctors with “very high marks”. Quirke added that he has made an Equality Tribunal complaints to the Nigerian authorities over “a racist incident” and now intends to apply for a Ghanaian visa.
