DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL has set new minimum standards for the size of apartments. Speaking to Louth Noises News, Dublin City Council Chief Executive Owen Keegan said the new standards will go along way towards solving the capital’s accommodation crisis.

 “By reducing the minimum standards, we can squeeze 16 apartments into a space where we previously had one. That represents a huge leap forward and will  have the added benefit of reducing energy costs for the occupiers”, he said.

“These miniments however are not designed to accommodate dweller luxuries such as personal possessions “, he conceded.

According to the guidelines seen by Louth Noises News, new build one-bedroom apartments must now not be less than 3 feet 6 inches squared, which is just enough space for a stiff, or a lethargic child, or two non-swinging domestic cats.
