RTÉ Caught in County Councillor Sting

RTÉ CHIEFS WERE left red faced following a county councillor’s elaborate double-cross sting.

The Fine Gael councillor, Hugh McElvaney,  had been one of a number of targets in a corruption-busting sting. But in a twist, the councillor revealed that he in fact was the investigator and that the RTÉ’s Investigations Unit TV programme was under the spotlight and was being investigated by the councillor.

Reacting to the stunning twist, RTÉ put its hands up and admitted that they’d been had.

“He got us. Fair play. Never will we again underestimate the integrity and sheer brilliance of a county councillor. We have learned our lesson. We’d like to apologise to the viewing public for any embarrassment caused,” said an RTÉ spokesperson.
