TANAISTE JOAN BURTON added levity to a crisis situation by falling out of a kayak to a large round of applause at a gathering of the waters in Thomastown Co. Kilkenny.

 “She was absolutely marvelous to stage this fall for us today. We were expecting the usual photo opportunity guff, but she pulled out all the stops and managed to take a sad situation and make it funny. That’s comedy gold”, said one local.

Irish politicians typically turn up at natural disasters to remind people that they can do nothing to help out, but take time out of their busy schedules to make arses of themselves.
